The Center was established by a decision of the governments of the six Member States of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf and the republic of Yemen, formalise… d through the Agreement and approved by the Board of Directors in 08 May 2013. This Agreement gives the Accreditation Center legal authority to provide specified accreditation services within the territories of all of the Members States in the fields of calibration, measurement, testing, inspection and certification, known generically as conformity assessment. It is established under the stewardship of the Standardization Organization of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf and is governed by a Board of Directors who exercises regular supervision over the affairs of the Center, and regional committees whose members are drawn from all Member states, including stakeholder bodies.

Assessor Qualification
Accreditation depends mostly on the assessment process, which is based on the effectiveness of technical competence of assessors. Accordingly, GAC is keen to attract skilled persons in all areas of accreditation from all over the world with the advantage for the ones belonging to the countries of Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). For that, an electronic database has been established to allows on-line registration and communication with GAC any expert who has the necessary qualifications to join the current qualified team.
A dedicated committee reviews periodically data of registered assessors so that it can update the approved list. New applicants, in the case of acceptance of their applications, should undergo the qualification process which is outlined in GAC procedures.
